The new Logo

The new logo of the Band is based on the Argentine flag (upper-left half) and the St. Andrew's Cross (lower-right half).  The Argentine flag represents our host country and the nationality of most of our members; whereas the St. Andrew's Cross represents the Scottish culture and traditions our Pipe Band both admires and fosters.

The Lion Rampant in the centre, taken from Scotland's heraldry, is reaching for the sun (on the Argentine flag), a symbol the Pipe Band's constant strive for excellency and high goals.

The predominant circular shape is a metaphoric expression of the Bands continuity, surpassing all kinds of adversity.  The circumference is also analogue to the cylindrical shape of pipes and drums.

The Pipe Band's first logo was designed in the early 1990s, and it was also based on the St. Andrew's Cross and the Lion Rampant.  Highly based on text messages, the "1955 PIPE BAND" implicated that this is the first pipe band formed in the region.  The "Buenos Aires - Argentina" text has now been replaced by the Argentine flag.  The semicircular "St Andrew's Society of the River Plate" also suggested the circular-shape metaphor and analogy described above.

During June 2001, the Pipe Band launched a campaign to renew the early 1990s logo.   Bandmembers presented a total of 28 different proposals at a meeting two weeks later.  Four of the ideas were chosen as final candidates after a long screening session.  The final decision was postponed one week so that the authors of the chosen ideas could work further on their designs (based on the comments received at the screening meeting). On July 14th, the draft shown on the right was chosen as the base-idea for the Band's new logo.  The author of this design is Agustina "Pepa" Tirantte, one of our Highland Dancers.

The digital and retouched version of the chosen design was completed almost a month after the final screening.  Maria Iricibar, a Piping student, was in charge of this final stage of the design.  The new logo was officially launched on August 31st, 2001 at a St. Andrew's Society Committee Meeting.
